Social media and other cloud-based media content is an essential part of the web experience today. Incorporating media into your site profoundly enriches the user’s experience.
As the product manager for EditLive!, I’ve spoken with content authors who want the ability to:
- complement their blogs with video messages,
- add how-to videos to training collateral, and
- embed a Google Map with directions to their next staff gathering.
Adding this rich text editing functionality would enable them to create integrated content. These seem like easy tasks, but it is often difficult to embed social and cloud-based media into many content systems due to poor support from underlying systems and rich text editors.
But when our developers at Ephox created EditLive! 9, our objective was to change that. We wanted to make embedding media from the web as easy as creating a hyperlink. So we did.
Embedding social media is easy
The new media dialog of EditLive! 9 enables content authors to simply provide a URL to media and EditLive! takes care of the rest.
Leveraging open standards
EditLive! uses the oEmbed open standard to request the details of the media and insert the required markup into the document. Content authors never have to work with complex markup like iframes, object tags or Flash. Instead, EditLive! 9 takes care of it all for them. Out-of-the-box support is provided for a number of popular web services, including YouTube, Vimeo and Flickr. And, with the addition of an aggregator service like Embed.ly, media is available from over 250 sites including Google Maps, SlideShare, news services, image galleries, and music services.
EditLive! is the only editor that makes the process of inserting media from the web this simple. And, by simplifying this process, any user can embed social media assets so you’re able to dramatically enrich your websites and deliver more value to your readers.
Benefits to your business
Social media drives traffic to your site, boosts retention of site visitors and dramatically improves how you get your message across. It’s also a tremendously efficient way to repurpose and share content created by others on the web.
