TinyMCE’s first release was over twelve years ago. In that time, online content creation has needed a great editor. Since that initial release, the project has added hundreds of features and thousands of bug fixes to the core editor. More recently, we began building a business around TinyMCE and we added premium functionality like PowerPaste, Spell Checker, Accessibility Checker and much more. TinyMCE Cloud adds another layer of value.
There are many reasons TinyMCE Cloud may be a fit. But I want to focus on two of the main reasons we developed TinyMCE Cloud: First, we wanted to make it easier to install the TinyMCE core editor. Second, we wanted existing users of the self-hosted version of TinyMCE to take advantage of our premium features without the need to setup a server.
Who should be using TinyMCE Cloud?
TinyMCE Cloud isn’t an all-or-nothing proposition. You can get an all-in-one editor from the Cloud. But if you’d rather host your own version of TinyMCE yourself and get the plugins via the cloud, no problem. I don’t know if you remember that Burger King slogan — “You can have it your way”— but that’s the approach we take: whatever your preferred editor and plugin configuration, we want to work with you to get it right.
Example benefits of TinyMCE Cloud
If you host our SDK editor on your own servers and want to use our premium spell checking service, that requires setting up and maintaining a Java server—and let’s face it, that’s not something everyone wants to deal with. Now, you can keep TinyMCE on your servers, and get our Spell Checker Pro plugin functionality through TinyMCE Cloud. No server deployment or maintenance to worry about.
The benefits of TinyMCE Cloud are not limited to our premium plugins. For instance, developers using the Image Tools plugin have to setup a server-side integration, but we’ve taken that requirement and added it to the TinyMCE Cloud. There are no more CORS configuration issues to resolve. Everything simply works.
Plans and pricing for Cloud
TinyMCE Cloud has been a catalyst in us redesigning our pricing model. Just as we want to provide flexibility with our deployment options, we wanted flexibility in our pricing. We also wanted our pricing to be fair – it is tied usage, which reflects both the value we bring to content creators as well as the costs we incur as usage increases
I’m happy to announce a new pricing model, at less than $1 per user per month for a bundle of all of our premium plugins and less than $0.40 per user per month for a single premium plugin. You can find more info on our pricing page.
How to switch from SDK or CDN to Cloud
It’s as easy as replacing a single line of code. For a complete breakdown on how to get started with Cloud, check out the documentation.
