Tools for EditLive! for Windows 3.x

  1. FTP Encryption tool:

    • setFTPPassword property allows developers to encrypt their FTP passwords.

    • A tool is provided with the EditLive! SDK to generate encrypted passwords.

    • The tool may also be downloaded here - download FTPEncryption.exe.

    • Download  or view the FTP Encryption tool help file.

  2. PC machine component ID identifier ('Display ID'):

    • This executable file when run will display the EditLive! component ID for that PC. Please quote this number when seeking a license reallocation from one PC to another. This program will produce a file called 'RegistrationReport.txt' - please send these details to us for resolution of individual PC registration problems.

    • .exe version - click to download.

    • .zip version - click to download.

  3. Registration problems ('ActivateEditLiveLicense21.exe'):

    • PC license registration may not be completing for a number of reasons. To track down the possible causes of a registration failure you should place a 'editlivelog.txt' file in the 'editlive' folder on your server, run EditLive! 2.1 build 136 or later, and send the resulting file to support@ephox.com.
    • If automatic registration is failing then using the manual registration executable may activate the license. Click here to download the ActivateEditLiveLicense21.exe executable file.
    • Run this file on each PC that is not registering and complete the details specified in your 'set-up' email. The server selected should be the Ephox server.
  4. Deactivate EditLive! Licence ('DeactivateEditLiveLicense.zip'):

    • If you have used all your allocated seats you may use the tool below to deactivate a licence, thereby freeing some seats to be used on another PC.
    • Run this file DeactivateEditLiveLicense.zip on each PC that no longer needs EditLive!.
    • This will deactivate the licence on that PC only.
  5. Reinstalling EditLive! for Windows:

    Unless the PC you are using is to one for downloading the SDK, unpacking the SDK and uploading the 'editlive' folder  to your server (the 'developer PC'), reinstalling EditLive! on a PC should only be used as a last resource and only after consultation with support@ephox.com.  Simply uninstalling EditLive! by deleting the files in the Program Files folder will not remove registration licensing-key values that have been added to the PC's registry. These two tools can be used to uninstall the program and to separately remove the values:

    Other than for the developer PC, reinstallation should be via the 'autoinstall' feature of the software. However, after consultation with support@ephox.com you may be asked to use the standalone installer; this is unpacked as part of the installation of the SDK on the developer PC and is available from 'Program Files' > 'ephoxeditlive' > 'standalone'.

  6. Proxy problems:

    • With image upload problems, it is often difficult to pick where the problem lies. Our software has been tuned to get passed most proxies but there may be some authentication issues on your system.
    • You can track where things are going wrong by using the Proxomitron to debug the issue, it is available at http://www.proxomitron.info/.
    • Using it is relatively simple:
      * load the program
      * set the web browser proxy to localhost port 8080 (this is the default, it can be changed)
      * bring up the log window
      * use EditLive!
    • The Proxomitron will keep a log of every HTTP request sent and the
      response. If the POSTAcceptorURL is indeed never called, we'll need a copy of the
      code in the browser along with (if possible) the Proxomitron log.
  7. Requests for insertion of the Microsoft Office disk upon installation or update of EditLive!
    • This behaviour may occur on systems that are running the updated shell, also known at the Desktop Update or Active Desktop. This occurs because the system is looking for an updated version of the Dynamic HTML (DHTML) Edit control (DHTML.ocx).
    • This request may be satisfied by either (a) running the EditLive! Standalone Installer or (b) inserting the Microsoft Office disk.
    • A new version of the EditLive! Standalone Installer is contained in the SDK, in folder 'standalone'. Be sure you use the version appropriate for your version and build.
