Background

PolicyMatter creates software that ensures employees read, understand and sign up to key corporate and regulatory policies in a timely and effective way within organizations.  Their software replaces the often ignored policy handbooks and intranets within large and highly regulated institutions such as banks, pharmaceutical companies, and government organizations.

Challenge

Prior to its first release, PolicyMatter faced the challenge of offering a complete software package that could convert corporate policy documents into dynamic electronic toolkits. 

PolicyMatter breaks down each company policy into separate clauses, so they can be individually edited and formatted by administrators in compliance, information security, risk, audit, and HR departments.  This allows each clause of every policy to be easily changed without disrupting the entire document. 

In order to do this successfully, they needed the ability to cut and paste existing content from Word documents into the PolicyMatter HTML templates.  This process can be time consuming and messy because the structure of the formatted text is not retained when pasted from Word to HTML. In addition, the pasted text contains HTML tags that are not compliant and can render incorrectly in the web browser. 

PolicyMatter looked for a tool that would simplify the importing of text from Microsoft Word and produce clean, structured content.  They also needed an easy to use, lightweight application that would seamlessly integrate with their platform.

Solution

In 2004, PolicyMatter discovered Ephox and integrated EditLive! Swing SDK  into their software as the web-based word processor.   Since then, they have worked closely with Ephox to develop new features in support of their requirements.

“With EditLive! we can cut, paste and edit chunks of content from Microsoft Word, and we get clean HTML in the PolicyMatter web pages,” said Chris.

The Result

More than 100 institutions worldwide use EditLive! within PolicyMatter’s software.
